The Country Director KOICA, Jihee Ahn hands over the 80 million volunteer project

Supporting Uganda’s agricultural sector, the People’s Republic of Korea is facilitating training for farmers on mindset change. Equip them with modern training technologies and commercial value addition. The country director Jihee Ahn handed over the 80 million shillings volunteer project to improve the National Farmers’ Leadership Centre education environment in Kampiringisa district.

Jihee Ahan promised based on friendship with you two sister countries, Korea will support Uganda’s agricultural sector to get farmers into commercial culture and value edition.

Mr. Paul Mwambo – Commissioner Crop Inspection and Certification services

 

The commissioner of Crop Inspection and Certification services in the Minister of Agriculture Animal Industries and Fisheries, Mr. Paul Mwambo commended Korea for the support.

Represented the Permanent Secretary, and in his speech, he acknowledged the government of the Republic of Korea for the support and smooth bilateral relationship with the Uganda government, most especially the establishment of NFLC and KOICA programs to support NFLC Phase Il project, the project is supporting MAAIF and specifically NFLC, to ensure that all Ugandans can be trained on mindset change and Modern Agricultural technologies to realize socio-economic transformation.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) takes a leading role in transforming the lives of Ugandans through the National Development Plan III and Vision 2040. The ministry has a mission to Transform Subsistence farming into Commercial Agriculture and our Mission is a Competitive, Profitable, and Sustainable Agricultural sector.

Currently, the Ministry is implementing several programs such as the Agro-Industrialization program which are in line with the National Development Plan Ill and directives of HE the president of the Republic of Uganda on the Development of the Agricultural sector, programs through the Ministry priorities.

The NFLC under MAAIF, was established to contribute to National transformation through training of farmers, farmer leaders, civic leaders, and all other stakeholders. Therefore, NFLC focus is on Mindset change, Agricultural Technology, and Community Transformation Models in particular, the Korean New Village Movement model of community development popularly known as Saemaul Undong/SMU which in the 1960s contributed to Korea’s community transformation with emphasis on the principles of Self-help, Diligence, and Cooperation founded on Principles of Work, Service, and Sacrifice.

The government of Uganda through MAAIF provided resources to NFLC, to specifically;
1. Train farmer leaders on mindset Change and Agricultural technologies for increased production and productivity
2. Mobilize and sensitize farmer leaders on government development programs like PDM.
3. Build a critical mass upon which the PDM will capitalize on current and future intervention in the Parishes.

It’s from the above background that we commend and appreciate the timely KOICA -Volunteer’s project to Improve the National Farmers Leadership Centre Educational Environment specifically with the modern public address system and other training equipment worth $20,000/=.

He thanked the government of Uganda and the Republic of Korea for the smooth bilateral relations that enable support to Ugandans through the various KOICA programs especially the KOICA- Volunteer program that dispatches experts to various government Agencies like NFLC and others around the country.

 

The principal National Farmers’ Leadership Centre, Mr. Okwaja John Bosco says these facilities will double the efforts of training more farmers.
