NFLC trains Muyira parish farmers

NFLC II Project is being implemented with three main objectives that include infrastructure support, staff capacity building, and demonstration farm improvement. Additionally, the project has been extending the center’s impact within neighboring communities, particularly Muyira parish under the theme of establishing model farmers through utilizing the farmer field school approach. In the 2022/23 financial year, the project has supported four (4) farmer groups and has selected 4 other groups as the second phase under the neighboring support activity.

The farming communities within Muyira parish are characterized by poor farming practices, limited access to knowledge, and inadequate exposure to improved agriculture techniques. This has significantly affected the overall livelihoods of people and thus organizing capacity building programs in mindset change and agriculture technologies would help to create better exposure to the farmers. This intervention will help to reduce the information gap among farmers and bring NFLC closer to rural communities thus improving the household incomes and living conditions.

Following the selection of the second cohort of beneficiary groups within Muyira parish, NFLC II Project has started training programs towards building the capacity of farmers. The activity is targeting one hundred (100) or more farmers within 4 beneficiary groups across various villages including Muyira, Bwansule, Nabyewanga, and Mbute among others. The training focus on two main aspects that are mindset change and agriculture production to which crosscutting issues such as gender, climate change, and ICT will be incorporated for a holistic approach. The groups are being taken through initiation training sessions to understand their current mindsets, challenges, and plans. Additionally, the group members will be trained, capacitated, and facilitated to establish fully functional farmer field schools to foster agriculture and community development.
