Mindset Change training for Terego District Local Government

The Assistant Chief Administrative Officer of Mpigi District, Mr. Wamala Francis, on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer, officially closed the Mindset Change training program held by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries for the leadership of Terego District Local Government. This training took place from August 20th to 23rd, 2024, at the National Farmers’ Leadership Centre.

In his remarks, he emphasized the crucial role each leader plays in shaping the future of their communities. He highlighted that the mission of local government leaders is not just to administer but to transform, not just to lead but to empower. He outlined three fundamental pillars essential for community development: teamwork, accountability, and effective communication.

  1. Teamwork for Community Development: Mr. Wamala referenced the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together,” underscoring the importance of collaboration among leaders, community members, and external partners. He stressed the need for inclusivity and the value of diverse voices in ensuring comprehensive and sustainable development efforts.
  2. Accountability: The Bedrock of Trust: He described accountability as a cornerstone of effective leadership and essential for building trust between leaders and the community. Leaders must be transparent and act with integrity, regularly monitoring and evaluating development projects, and admitting mistakes when necessary.
  3. Communication: The Bridge to Understanding: Effective communication, according to Mr. Wamala, is vital for connecting leaders with their communities. It transforms ideas into action and requires a two-way approach, actively listening to community needs and finding innovative ways to engage with them. Clear and transparent communication helps demystify leadership roles and garners community support for development initiatives.

He concluded by urging all leaders to embrace these principles to lay a strong foundation for Terego District’s development, ensuring that every community member thrives.
