Overview
The model farm produces crops and livestock as commercial enterprises. The crops include high value crops namely: horticulture, macadamia, coffee, banana, passion fruit, Mangoes and citrus and some seasonal crops like ginger, maize and soya. The livestock enterprises include dairy production, goat keeping (for both meat & milk), pigs, poultry, aquaculture and apiculture.
Objectives

- Provide practical farm training;
- Demonstrate appropriate farming approaches, systems and practices for commercialization based on the crops and livestock produced on the farm
- Generate revenue from the sales of farm products. Items for sale include improved planting and stocking materials, harvested crops and slaughter animals
MODERN FAMING TECHNOLOGIES
The Centre engages in producing crops for generation of revenue as well as demonstration of improved technologies; as well as good agronomic, post-harvest handling and value addition practices.
The crops are categorized as Horticulture (vegetables, fruits and ornamentals), seasonal and perennial crops. Perennial crops include coffee and bananas.
It is anticipated that the crops vary and the choice is guided by information generated through market and feasibility studies that are carried out from time to time.
The livestock enterprises include cattle, goats, poultry, pigs, aquaculture and apiculture. The livestock enterprises, like the crops enterprises are kept for generation of revenue as well as for demonstration of improved breeds; and recommended animal husbandry and value addition practices. The production units target producing specific products for the market.
